Time runs out on Cardinals

Saturday night, November 24th, the Cardinals took on the Saints of Holy Cross College in the second meeting of the two teams. The hot shooting of the Saints led them to the win, 78-88.

Both teams were shooting lights out from behind the arc to begin the game. The Cardinals and Saints connected on 7 and 8 first half three-pointers, respectively. The hot shooting of the Saints would give them an 11 point lead in the first 7 minutes of the half. The half would end with the Cardinals trailing by 17 points.

The second half would start with both teams scoring bucket-for-bucket. The shooting of the Saints made it difficult for the Cardinals to close the gap despite great offensive performance. A couple of points from offensive rebounds would soon give the Saints a 23 point lead, their largest of the game, with 13:00 remaining on the clock. Through great defense and offense the Cardinals were able to decrease the lead to 10 points with 2:45 left in the game. In the end, great free throw shooting by the Saints would allow them to maintain their lead despite 4 three-pointers in the last 2 minutes by the Cardinals.

Junior Orelus put up a career-high 32 points while hitting 8 three-pointers. Tyler Wooldridge added 21 points and dished out 7 assists. Matthew Little chipped in 11 points and grabbed 6 boards.

The Cardinals will head down to Donaldson, IN on Tuesday, November 26th at 7:30pm to take on the Chargers of Ancilla College. The Cardinals won in overtime, 76-73, when the two teams met earlier this month.
