Cardinal Men win Season Opener
The Cardinals men's soccer team defeated Kentucky Christian University 2-1 in OT in a tightly contested game Friday. It was the Cardinals first game in nearly a year after having the 2020 season cancelled due to Covid.
The Cardinals went up early on the Knights in the 21st minute with a goal by Gabe Palacios, however Kentucky Christian leveled the game shortly after with a 24th minute goal by Canon Claeys. The game was fiercely contested with a total of 17 fouls and 3 yellow cards being issued to both teams. Gabe Palacios received 2 yellow cards for the Cardinals and was forced to the bench late in the game. However, the Cardinals persevered in overtime, with Freshman Joshua Bell scoring the walk-off winning goal one minute and forty one seconds into the period.
Heat was also an issue with many players cramping up due to the temperatures being in the high 80s. Water breaks were taken halfway through each half to deal with the heat. The Cardinals host Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday August 31 at 6:00 pm.
