2025 Newmyer Classic Invitation, January 29–February 1

It is with excitement that we invite your teams to participate in the 2025 Newmyer Classic at Andrews University. This tournament is all about providing a distinctly Christ-centered environment for your students, coaches and fans to experience and enjoy. The Newmyer Classic has a rich history of great sportsmanship and conduct by coaches, fans and players that helps to make this one of the best tournaments available for your school to attend. Teams are expected to arrive Wednesday evening, January 29, and games will begin early Thursday morning January 30th.

The tournament will be held at our state of the art Andreasen Center for Wellness Recreation Center as the primary venue for our tournament, as well as in our secondary facility: Johnson Gym. We will also utilize Andrews Academy Gymnasium during Friday, as well as Saturday night. All Championship games and closing ceremonies will take place at ACW on Saturday night, February 1.

  • The Newmyer Classic is composed of over 40 teams: 2 girls & 2 guys divisions. Register soon!
  • Divisions will be assigned by the tournament staff based primarily on the size of schools, season records and level of play. (Once all teams are registered we will be able to make the divisions)
  • Teams must register at www.aucardinals.com by December 31, 2024, under the tab Newmyer Classic. Please download the excel form, fill it in completely, then send back to us. Form is also attached to this letter for your convenience.
  • A $200.00 non-refundable deposit can be sent in to lock in your spot; all funds are non-refundable after January 7th (Registration is not complete until full payment is received)
  • Visit the Andrews Marketplace to make a payment for your team and individual players. Registration = $400.00/TEAM + Individual Participants Fee. (ONLY $80/pp, which includes 6 meals. See below.) Per Person fee is DUE by Monday, January 13. ONE Coach per team at No Charge.
  • Liability Waivers & Hold harmles:s forms are due at check-in and prior to your 1st game.
  • Every team is required to submit a Certificate of Insurance naming Andrews University as a covered party.
  • Our university runs several hotel guest rooms. If still available, their cost ranges from $95-$105 with tax AND BREAKFAST included! If you are interested, please call (269) 471-3360 or email lodging@andrews.edu.
  • Each team will play 5 games (2 Thursday, 2 Friday and 1 Saturday night)

GREAT NEWS: In order to enhance the overall tournament experience, and to alleviate the burden of having to find other places for your players to eat:

  • ALL Thursday, Friday & Saturday Lunch and Dinner meals will very conveniently be taking place at the AU Terrace Cafe, and provided by our award winning Bon Appetit Dining Services.
  • Meals are ALL YOU CAN EAT!!
  • All participants must be wearing their tournament lanyard, and check in via QR Code. (all others guests will need to pay at the door via credit-card only)
  • For guests who book their stay at our University Hotel rooms, breakfasts will also be included!
  • Please Note: For Thursday’s lunch, teams will be asked to come before or after the peak cafeteria hours of 12:20–1:20pm.

ROSTERS: Athletic Directors and group leaders, please be aware that if you are bringing multiple teams, players will only be allowed to play with the team they are registered under. In other words, no going up-and-down between divisions. If there are any changes to the roster, they will need to be done prior to beginning play and remain through the end of the tournament.

COACHES’ ZOOM CALL: We are inviting every attending coach and group leader to an important zoom call in order to provide even more detailed information, answer questions, pray together and go over the itinerary for the event. Please mark your calendars for Monday, January 27th @ 12:00 Noon EST. We will be sending everyone the link on a separate email just prior to that time.

ARRIVALS & Check-in: Registration will take place on Wednesday evening, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Andreasen Center for Wellness. If you are unable to arrive at that time, please let us know so we can make other arrangements. There we will…

The most important thing that will happen on our campus during the Newmyer Classic, is great fellowship leading to Eternal relationships. “The game is never as important as the people that you play it with!”  The weather during the last tournament was delightful, for this year we are keeping it a last minute surprise, nonetheless the environment in the games and worship services will be indeed warm and welcoming. This year we are truly excited to continue to build upon the incredible sportsmanship and Christian environment during the Newmyer Classic  games.
